For a good number of years, scientist have tested the influence the a non-psychotropic component of the cannabis plant called cannabidoil(CBD) on various health issues. To date, the studies have suggested that the substance can reduce the growth of breast carcinoma and lung cancer. Recently, scientist at the University of Naples began to test the influence of CBD on colon cancer in mice. That effort allowed the scientists to conclude that CBD could reduce cancer cell growth, as well as the size of tumors in the colon. Scientists also determined that CBD was rather safe for humans because it could be well tolerated. As a result, the scientists also recommended that CBD should be worthy of a further testing for prevention of colon cancer in human beings.
The proponents of medical marijuana laws and others who seek either to decriminalize its use or legalize it entirely look to the these studies with great enthusiasm because marijuana/pot is currently listed as a Schedule I Drug. In order to receive such a classification, it must be shown that the drug is capable of a high potential of abuse and that it has no accepted medical use in the United States.
