There’s no doubt that drugs present a significant problem in the United States. A great deal of violent crime is associated with drug use. In 2001, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that, out of all state and local arrests, 11.6% (1,586,902) were for drug abuse violations. In 2006, an estimated 1.9 million arrests were made for drug abuse violations (13.1% of the total number of arrests), more than for any other offense. Heroin and cocaine represented the highest percentage of arrests related to sales/manufacturing, but marijuana represented the greatest percentage of arrests for possession.

According to the 2004 New Jersey Drug Threat Assessment Update, New Jersey is particularly at risk for use as a regional drug shipment and distribution center because it has a very well-developed transportation infrastructure and is located near New York City and Philadelphia. Drugs of particular concern include marijuana, cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens (LSD, Mushrooms), ecstacy/XTC (MDMA), and pharmaceutical prescription drugs such as OxyContin.

As a result of the seriousness of the charges against drug users and the aggressive stance taken against drugs by both the state and the federal government, it’s essential to hire an experienced attorney as soon as possible to represent you in a criminal drug case. Frank T. Luciano began handling drug cases as a young municipal public defender, a position he held for over thirteen years. His interest continues to this day. As explained, he has published a book titled "The Drug War: The Other Casualties" and other related papers. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Legal Committee for the National Organization of Reformation of Marijuana Laws (NORML). His clients have included major drug dealers and individuals charged with a small possession of a narcotic.

His experience in this area of the law is critical for a successful result—and critical for you.
