Expungements

If you have made a mistake in your life, which resulted in a criminal conviction that mistake may continue to influence your life choices, including your eligibility for certain jobs. All is not lost, however. You may obtain an expungment of a criminal record under certain circumstances. The process is not a simple one and will require the assistance of an attorney who is throughly familiar with the criminal justice system.

As you can see from an article authored by Frank T. Luciano and posted on the Library Section of this website, the opportunity to obtain an expungement is limited to certain crimes and offenses. In addition, there are certain time constraints imposed before a prior offender can obtain an expungment in New Jersey. For some of the more serious criminal offenses, the waiting time can be as much as 10 years. In other cases, the waiting time can be as little as 6 months.
