New Jersey's Consumer Fraud statute is considered one the strongest consumer protection laws in the country. It provides the consumer with an arsenal of lethal weapons that includes the opportunity to recover from the wrong-doer. three times his/her actual damages (treble damages), and the cost of litigation, including attorney fees. Suffice to say, a merchant who is accused of violating this statute must be very deliberate in engaging an attorney because the stakes are extremely high.
